Art Fair

It’s time again for the Art Show at the Pima County Fair! Student artists from schools all over the county show their artworks to the entire regional community. We participate every year with hundreds of entries from Kinder to 8^th Grade, and every student wins a ribbon!

All Kinder and 1^st grade students will have art entered in the Fair, but we become more selective beginning in 2^nd grade when students enter the art room.

Every year we explain how we choose the Art to the students from 2^nd grade up. We don’t focus on talent; rather we emphasize following the guidelines of each project and making a great effort. For example, a very talented student may waste time socializing and hand in a late project. That artwork would not qualify. Also, only finished and clean artworks are chosen. Finally, students must label their art with their name and age.

This year the fair opens April 16^th and closes April 26^th. Many, many thanks to the students, teachers and parents who help Mrs. Paradis and Mrs. Phelps make our Pima County Fair Art Show so spectacular! Welcome to 2013-2014 School Year!

2013-2014

2^nd -8^th Grade

It’s a new year for TCDS Art! We look forward to welcoming our “veteran” students and new students to a new year old doing, learning, and creating.  Grades 2-8 will study famous artists, history, and world cultures while making cool, beautiful, and amazing artworks all year.  We will do painting, ceramics, printmaking, collage, sculpture, mixed media, drawing, pastels and more!

2^nd and 3^rd Grades – Students will be learning to use a wide variety of media and become acquainted with famous artists and themes. The processes of art are emphasized.

4^th and 5^th Grades – Students will grow their art skills by learning new media, as well as a major focus on artists through history – their techniques, styles and inspirations.

6^th and 7^th Grades – Students will continue learning about art in the context of world cultures. Kids work more independently and we have a great emphasis on personal style.

8^th Grade – Students choose art as an elective. They learn advanced techniques, use more specialized media, and choose their project independently.  They finish the year with an independent study they design and produce with our assistance.

In April, after months of selecting, cataloging, and mounting, we take hundreds of pieces of student art to the Pima County Fair Art Show. It’s brilliant! Don’t miss it!

Mrs. Paradis and Mrs. Phelps are committed to showing each student that there is an artist within – and that each one can use his or her creative power to make awesome art!

Maybe you can find your child's art if you were not able to attend the fair.  Please note that we did not get to photograph all pieces since there were over 600 from Tucson Country Day School. Don't worry you will be getting your child's artwork back before the last day of school.

Last Year's Pima Country Art Fair!

We are in the process of getting ready for the art fair.  We can't wait to share all of the amazing art our school has been producing.  Last year (2012) we entered 603 pieces of art. How many will we have this year?
