Welcome to a busy new year in the Art Studio! You will begin to see process photos and some finished work this week on our current projects. With fresh project designs and limitless student creativity, Mrs. Paradis and Mrs. Phelps are looking forward to a beautiful year. Before photos, here are some behind-the-scenes things we want you to be aware of:
First, we're preparing a presentation for you for Curriculum Night, August 31 and September 1. It will be about standards and what kids can expect to learn, and hopefully answer the question "What do they DO in that Art Room anyway? Please join us at 5PM, 5:30PM or 6PM to get an up close look at everything from prep through project in the Art Studio.
Second, we are helping students prepare information for you for Conferences, so your students can lead you through a comprehensive picture of their school accomplishments.
Third, we are participating in a school-wide, organized program of cross-curricular project design, so that teachers can strengthen core academic classes by adding art components. This is a work in progress that will be happening throughout the year.
Finally, we are just beginning to talk as a Specialist Team about the Go Live Special Event at the end of the year. It's a school community event to showcase every student's accomplishments in Art, Music, Sports, Tech, Spanish and some of our exciting Clubs. It will be held on May 7th this year, so plan ahead!

2015 Pima County Fair
Art Fair
It’s time again for the Art Show at the Pima
County Fair! Student artists from schools all over the county show their
artworks to the entire regional community. We participate every year with
hundreds of entries from Kinder to 8th Grade, and every student wins
a ribbon!
All Kinder and 1st grade students
will have art entered in the Fair, but we become more selective beginning in 2nd
grade when students enter the art room.
Every year we explain how we choose the Art
to the students from 2nd grade up. We don’t focus on talent; rather
we emphasize following the guidelines of each project and making a great
effort. For example, a very talented student may waste time socializing and
hand in a late project. That artwork would not qualify. Also, only finished and
clean artworks are chosen. Finally, students must label their art with their
name and age.
This year the fair opens April 16th and closes April 26th. Many, many
thanks to the students, teachers and parents who help Mrs. Paradis and Mrs. Phelps
make our Pima County Fair Art Show so spectacular! Don’t forget to visit our
blog to see latest projects http://tcdsartdepartment.blogspot.com and please like our
Facebook page: Tucson Country Day School

We look forward to seeing you at the fair!
