Art Awards for 1st Quarter

A big congratulations to Mrs. Mazon’s  4th Grade class and Mrs. Smith’s class in 2nd grade.  They are the winners of the 1st quarter art award!! We (Mrs. Phelps and Mrs. Paradis) worked hard to create a special necklace for each Champion Artist.

To win, classes must fill their “Class Palette” with as many colors as possible.  How do they win colors? Classes must work as a team to achieve Champion behavior every week!

Here is a poem written by Mrs. Paradis for our winners:

The Art Winners

You worked as a team

You each did your part

To keep your agreements

And create great Art.

One hundred percent

Is the effort you gave,

And in trying new things

You were nothing but brave.

So today you are winners

And it is out pleasure

To bring you a prize

A handmade Art Treasure!

3rd Grade Boothill project

3rd grade has worked hard over the past three weeks creating cowboy boots. Students started with a watercolor wash background to look like a sunset. They then learned about drawing silhouettes.  We talked about and looked at plants from the desert where we live.  The last step was designing a cowboy or cowgirl boot.  Students focused on painting with control and using the watercolors properly.   Great work 3rd grade!

2nd Grade Concentric Circles

2nd Grade Concentric Circles: This beautiful project was a lot of fun. We taught color mixing with tempera paint and the students were very absorbed tracing concentric circles and then filling them with unique, never-before-seen colors. Then, students used Q-tips and metallic paint to make patterns. Guided experimentation, using the vocabulary of art and the process itself -- rather than a fixed outcome -- is all part of the early art experience at TCDS.
